Fall is arriving -- which means the start of spooky season, one of our favorites! 2nd grade students have been crafting hungry ghosts during their art time with Miss Fines, who are gobbling up candy and treats. We love seeing their focus as they bring their ideas to life!

With thanks to BBGB, we are thrilled to be hosting author Amber McBride on 10/4 to share with our students about her new book and what it's like to be an author! Ms. V started Onyx & Beyond last week and LOVES it. Order a signed copy at https://tinyurl.com/GLESmcbride

Last week, students shopped the ROAR cart for the first time this year! Students earn points for meeting ROAR expectations, which they can then spend on treats, toys, and experiences at our ROAR cart. Students will shop again in a few weeks, so encourage them to ROAR every day!

Mrs. Agelasto's amazing all stars have been making new friends, practicing collaboration skills, learning about letters, building shapes, and so much more!! Every day in preschool is a busy day as they strengthen their natural curiosity and love for learning!

Exciting news! Ms. Lewis is sponsoring a STEP team here at Glen Lea! 3rd to 5th grade students can pick up a permission slip in room C7. Tryouts are 9/24-9/26 from 3:20-4:320pm. Parents must provide transportation for both tryouts & practice. Can't wait to see your talent shine!

Kindergarten students have been exploring lines and color in art as they celebrate the start of the school year. They also practiced following directions as Ms. Fines modeled different skills for them. Check out that focus and pride as they share their first projects of the year!

Our students are supported every day by a variety of staff -- school counselors, exceptional ed team members, the LAMPS team, and many more. Come out to meet these staff, Principal Gordon, your students' teachers, & more at Back to School Night on Thursday, 9/12/24 at 5:30pm!

We love seeing the ways our students grow more responsible every day under the guidance of our 3-5th grade teachers, even as they learn new routines like changing classes. Come meet these teachers -- and more! -- at our Back to School night on September 12th at 5:30pm!

Our K-2 teams have enjoyed getting to know your students as they build routines, establish community, and hit the ground running for the 2024-25 school year. Come out to meet these teachers -- and the rest of our team -- on September 12th at 5:30pm for Back to School Night.

As we deepen our focus on learner-centered environments, these 4th graders show what an impact this can have! Ms Johnston's thoughtfulness to the environment shows up in her students' growing focus and productive teamwork. We love the pride in those smiles!

Check out this summer update from Principal Gordon! And be sure to swing by St Luke's Lamont Bagby Center on Wednesday, June 26 at 2pm to meet our new Associate Principal, Rachel Payne. Read more here: https://secure.smore.com/n/gkat0

We are excited to welcome Rachel Payne back to the Glen Lea community, beginning July 1. Ms. Payne will join Mr. Gordon (principal) and Mr. Schneck as our second associate principal. She looks forward to building positive relationships & supporting teachers in the coming year.

We miss you already, Lions! Flashback to our kindergarten students at the Children's Museum in May. It might be one of Ms. V's favorite field trips EVER. Students explored their curiosity with magnets, the human body, push/pull forces, and so much more. Those smiles!

It's a week of celebration! Our 5th graders competed in the annual kickball tournament, a culmination of sportsmanship work with Mr. Frederes. Students learn cooperation, communication, trust in their team, and more. Mr. Neal's class won, but it was a nail biter for a bit!

Wow -- check out these brilliant 1st graders, celebrating their hard work with a SNEAKER BALL! Thanks to the 1st grade team & all their supporters for making these smiles happen last Friday. Students danced with all their friends and built lasting memories. Work hard, play hard!

We know how to have a GREAT time together here at Glen Lea! Our last Fun Friday of the year included a "pie" eating contest across grade levels -- no spoons allowed! Check out all of these smiling faces.

Our 1st graders had a GREAT time at the Metro Richmond Zoo yesterday as their learning about habitats and living creatures came to life! Check out those faces as they fed giraffes, learned about bats, watched orangutans, and more. We are so proud of their curiosity & engagement!

Second graders are continuing to build that financial literacy as they practice counting coins -- which also means many opportunities to practice skip counting by 5s and 10s. Students were so determined to master their money that they chose to kept working during a brain break!

Kindergarten students went on their first field trip of the year this week! They visited the VA Museum of History & Culture to learn about maps and community. Their favorite part definitely was exploring and getting their hands on lots of different props!

2nd graders enjoyed their field trip to Lewis Ginter, where they explored different living creatures -- from snails to turtles to caterpillars -- around the beautiful gardens. Students learned more about our very own ecosystems. They were so excitied to share when they came back!
